New Volunteer Orientation - August 1, 2015

Saturday, August 01, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Thanks for your interest in The Bike House!

You're invited to our New Volunteer Orientation this Saturday, August 1, 11am-noon outside Annie's Ace Hardware (1240 Upshur St NW). We'll talk about our policies and goals and answer any questions you have. No mechanical experience is required - we'll help you pick up any skills you want to learn during the clinics (and keep you posted about upcoming classes).

Please RSVP here for the orientation. Our flagship clinic runs immediately after, from 12-3pm in the same location. It's a welcoming, casual environment with volunteers and guests of levels of experience - and all the tools you could possibly need. We hope you stick around to learn some new skills and share what you know.

You're also invited to mingle with our regular volunteers the night before at a Volunteer Happy Hour. On Friday from 7-9pm, join us for food, drinks, patio sitting, and pinball and get to know your fellow Bike House wrenches.

See you there!

New Mechanics Class - Aug (Tues)

Tuesday, August 04, 2015 at 06:30 PM

When: 4 week class, Tuesday evenings, August 4/11/18/25; 6:30pm - 7:45pm

This is a series of classes so we ask that you be at all four.

Class size: 10

Cost: $20 suggested donation for series

This class is designed for those who are interested in bikes, but haven't taken the plunge into working on bikes. It will be set up as a series of 4 one-hour classes.

Topics to be covered will be chain cleaning/inspection, patching a flat tire, changing/adjusting brake pads, adjusting derailleurs and wheel truing. These techniques are useful for every rider to understand.

Also, keep in mind that we have our clinics at Annie's Ace Hardware (Saturdays from noon to 3pm) and Bloomingdale Farmer's Market (Sundays from 11am to 1pm). The clinics are another great way to connect up, learn some of the basics and get your bike tuned up at the same time.
