Learn to fix your bike for free with The Bike House

The Bike House is a community-based bicycle repair co-op in Washington, DC. Our mission is to build a place where all people can learn about, work on, and enjoy bikes.We do this by providing free bicycle maintenance services and education through our weekend clinics, mobile bike clinic, and beginner and advanced mechanics classes.

SOLD OUT - New Mechanics Class for Women - Oct (Tuesday)

When: 4 week class, Tuesday evenings, October 7/14/21/28; 6:30pm - 7:45pm

This is a series of classes so we ask that you be at all four.

Class size: 10

Cost: $20 suggested donation for series

This beginner mechanics course is open to anyone who identifies as a woman and wants to gain basic skills and confidence in bicycle maintenance and repair. No experience necessary - just come ready to get your hands dirty!

Topics covered: 1) cleaning chains and fixing flats; 2) maintaining and repairing braking systems; 3) maintaining and adjusting shifting systems; and 4) truing wheels. With this knowledge, you’ll be able to perform safety checks, emergency repairs, and basic maintenance.

This is a hands-on class so you are encouraged, but not required, to bring your bike.

Continue your journey by attending our free clinics at Annie’s Ace Hardware (every Saturday 12-3) and the Bloomingdale Farmers Market (every Sunday 11-1), where you can hone your skills, work on your bike, and help teach others what you’ve learned.

This is a series of classes so we ask that you be at all four.

Class size: 10

Cost: $20 suggested donation for series

This class is designed for those who are interested in bikes, but haven't taken the plunge into working on bikes. It will be set up as a series of 4 one-hour classes, which take place on Wednesday evenings.

Topics to be covered will be chain cleaning/inspection, patching a flat tire, changing/adjusting brake pads, adjusting derailleurs and wheel truing. These techniques are useful for every rider to understand.

Also, keep in mind that we have our clinics at Annie's Ace Hardware (Saturdays from noon to 3pm) and Bloomingdale Farmer's Market (Sundays from 11am to 1pm). The clinics are another great way to connect up, learn some of the basics and get your bike tuned up at the same time.
